TEMESCAL MASTERS

A modern web and mobile site redesign attracts new memberships, promoting a community that supports health and fitness.

ROLE

UX and Visual Design

PROJECT TIME

June 2017

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Temescal Masters launched their website in the late 1990s. They were ready to update their website to meet modern standards.

THE PROBLEM

CONSTRAINTS

As a non-profit organization,

Temescal Masters had a very low budget to redesign their website.

Temescal Master's outdated website needed a redesign to attract new swimmers.  In addition, through user research, existing swimmers wanted easy access to upcoming events.

THE ORIGINAL PAGES

The original pages were outdated with a purple background. Purple?!  The page layouts lacked structure and there was too much text with very few visuals. Users had to read through the large chunks of information to get what they needed, which caused annoyance. Thus, this was the perfect opportunity for me to transform ugly pages into fun and modern pages.

THE EVOLUTION

The redesigned home page had a similar layout from start to finish.  New users who landed on the home page were greeted with photos of happy swim members and could easily learn how to join the team.  Existing members could access upcoming events.

THE VISUAL ILLUSTRATIONS

I started with a horizontal layout of the schedule but decided to change it to a vertical orientation because it was more mobile friendly. I also played with multiple colors to illustrate the difference of time but realized that too many colors was distracting.

REFLECTIONS

The most challenging part of this project was working with Teme's limited budget.  The most rewarding part was seeing the faces of board members light up when they saw the new website. They were incredibly gracious and appreciative of my work. Happy clients are the best clients.

I'm open for coffee, especially matcha lattes if you'd like to collaborate together! Feel free to contact me
